DESCRIPTION
- Ennery is a predominantly rural commune in the Arbonite Department of Haiti consisting of “hills” and plains.
- Ennery is also known as a tourist spot, attracting tourists and business people looking for a quiet and calm destination, away from the crowds that typically flock to other, busier tourist locations on the island.
- Ennery is the birthplace of Toussaint Louverture, the leader of the Haitian revolution and namesake of the airport in Port-au-Prince, and has a statue and museum erected in his honor.
- Although he died before declaring victory, his achievements set the grounds for the Black army's absolute victory and for Jean-Jacques Dessalines to declare the sovereign state of Haiti in January 1804.
