Alina Mattson, a senior from Sewickley Academy in Pittsburgh, joined us for a trip last year and took the reigns this year to organize a trip for her fellow classmates. When the English Language Isn't Enough
When you return from a developing country, people always ask, “How was your trip?” “What did you do?” “What was it like?” More than once I’ve heard, “Is it as bad as it looks?” While I don’t struggle to answer those types of questions, I rarely trust that my answers adequately represent the experience. It’s very difficult to understand the conflicting ways that a people and culture can exist. Haiti, and Haitians are no exception to that statement.
HAITI: THE WEEK MY LIFE CHANGED
So, why run across Haiti? Why put my body through 371km over only 8 days? This distance seems absurd to some people, nearly impossible to others. But for me, it signifies how ‘one foot in front of the other’ creates a movement.
