An Update on the Situation in Haiti

Thanks to everybody who has reached out to check in on our families in Haiti. The situation in Haiti continues to be difficult.

Gang violence and kidnappings are still rampant. There are still communities in Port-au-Prince that are isolated, and the main roads leading out of the capital going north and south also continues to be inaccessible. On a day-to-day basis, our families and team check in to make sure there is road access to our communities for us to continue our programming.

About once every few weeks, all activities including businesses and schools are halted due to gunshots, protests, or gang fights that force everyone to stay home and out of harm's way. In addition to this, inflation and a fragmented supply chain have made it very challenging for our families to afford essential items.

Just two weeks ago, our beloved Wahoo Bay Hotel was ransacked and threatened by gangs. No one was physically harmed. Many businesses have been targeted. Our recycling partner hasn't been able to open for months now. Whole communities have been taken over by gangs, leaving residents fleeing.

Despite this, and thanks to your support, our programming continues and it's packed with families who have decided that the only way through is forward. Yesterday, our monthly family meeting was standing room only. Parents are doing everything they can to be brave and send their kids to school each day. They're also keeping up with their work towards a living income within our workforce programs.

Among other progress made, 25 of our family members just started new businesses through our program. Our collection network removed over 120,000 pounds of plastic from the environment last month. All of our kids are in school. Our next group of families to graduate from our program and into financial independence are gearing up for their big celebration.

You are the reason that they're able to keep going during this time. We're not backing down. With your support, we will continue to make progress and ensure that our families can end poverty for themselves for good.

Coming up in May, many of our supporters will complete 200 miles to raise funds for our families. Some of them have already signed up with many more on the way. Please join our community by making a donation today.
