A 7.2 Earthquake Shakes Haiti
We’re devastated to share the news that a 7.2 earthquake hit this morning with an epicenter located in the south, approximately 25.3 km from Port-au-Prince, the country's capital.
At this time, the extent of the damage cannot be estimated. We know of many casualties in the south as whole buildings have collapsed. Some of our First Mile collectors there have been hospitalized or displaced to another community.
Our families in Menelas and Truitier are physically ok. Personal physical and building damages are currently being assessed. We’re also working to prepare them for aftershocks.
Immediately, homes will need repairs. Many will need to be rebuilt. Some families will require temporary shelters. Unfortunately, in addition to medical care, we’ll also need to support some burials as well as continue to work to keep the people we support safe from COVID.
We know we’ve asked so much of you these past two years. None of the progress we’ve made can happen without you. If you’re able to support this response effort, it’ll make the work move so much faster.
Our families and collectors network know that our hearts are with them in Haiti, and they can’t thank you enough for being behind him.
More to come as our team completes the assessment.
We’re in this together…,
